Hospice boutique op shop returns

COVID19 lockdowns temporarily closed the Friends of Hospice Op Shop located at 723 Sturt Street Ballarat during 2020 and renovations kept the doors closed during 2021.

Now a fresh boutique op shop experience returns to Ballarat during the week of Monday August 9, 2021.

“The shop is brimming with winter coats, jackets, boots and gorgeous pre loved treasures.” Ballarat Hospice Care CEO Mrs Carita Clancy said.

“Our volunteers have been working hard to prepare for the reopening and we are all looking forward to welcoming the community back to the shop.”

“In the past we have enjoyed wonderful community support through the Op Shop. We seek that support again now.”

With the shop closed for most of 2020 and 2021, Ballarat Hospice Care hopes for a return of additional funds raised through the Op Shop.

“The proceeds raised through the Op Shop add value to our specialist palliative care in the community. Income from the Op Shop eases the reliance on state government funds and are used to further enhance patient and family quality of life and continual improvements on how we provide care. This includes the purchase of equipment allowing people to be cared for in their home” Mrs Clancy added.

Op Shop Coordinator Ms Darcy Irvin said “Every day we were working to prepare the shop before the July lockdown, there were people lined up outside interested to come in and start shopping. It will be terrific to open the doors and let them in.”

“The volunteers have missed being together and working for the Hospice cause,” she added.

Further to this Ballarat Hospice Care is giving people the opportunity to volunteer and is hosting volunteer information sessions for anyone interested to volunteer at the Op Shop, offering support to patients or carers or assisting with community events. The sessions are planned for
