World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, kindness and generosity…

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day happens every year. This year it was on October 10, 2020. It is a day to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world.

In our own back yard, we celebrate the efforts of a local family who performed a wonderful act of kindness that benefits both Ballarat Hospice Care and the people we care for.

Suga Neil and her three primary school age daughters decided early in the year to donate their hair for cancer patients. Suga and her daughters have beautiful long hair! This is a wonderfully kind and generous gift.

The family chose to cut their hair close to Suga’s October birthday on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day. In the lead up, the family raised funds for Ballarat Hospice Care with over $1000 raised on Facebook so far.

There is plenty of support for the family at Black Hill Primary School where the Sugar’s daughters attend holding a fundraiser as well following World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.

Ballarat Hospice Care CEO, Carita Clancy said “We feel so incredibly grateful to the family for their kindness and generosity and of course we are delighted to receive funds raised to extend our palliative care service.”

“In a world where we are worried about COVID19 and the impact on people experiencing or supporting someone receiving end of life care, we are all inspired by these beautiful selfless acts that are compassionate and raise awareness of the experience of others.”
