A Professional Venue with Purpose

The Ballarat Hospice Care Palliative Care Hub was built through strong community support and government partnership to create a dedicated education, research and service delivery space in Ballarat.

Today, it serves not only as the home of Ballarat Hospice Care, but also as a high-quality venue for our health partners, local organisations, businesses and community groups seeking a professional and welcoming space.

The Hub is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the property boundaries.

HISTORY

In 2015, the Committee of Management of Ballarat Hospice Care identified the need for a purpose-built facility to support the End of Life Framework, expand research, and continue delivering high-quality palliative care to the community.

Land was purchased in Alfredton and the “Give to Help Hospice Grow” appeal was launched in February 2016. The community responded with overwhelming generosity through individual, foundation and corporate donations and fundraising activities.

The project was further supported by a successful application to the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF). On 18 September 2017, a $6.2 million grant was announced by the Hon. Jill Hennessy (then Minister for Health), in the company of Hon. Jaala Pulford and Sharon Knight MP.

The Palliative Care Hub was officially opened on 2 October 2019 by Hon. Jaala Pulford on behalf of the Hon. Jenny Mikakos, Minister for Health.
