Start the Conversation that Matters | Dying to Know 2026

Some conversations can be hard to start – but they can bring comfort, clarity and connection.

This August, Ballarat Hospice Care is inviting the community to take part in two free Death Cafés, hosted in partnership with Ballarat Cemeteries as part of Dying to Know month.

About Dying to Know

Dying to Know is a national campaign that encourages people to prepare for the inevitable with purpose, care and a clear sense of legacy.

This year’s campaign, Nobody Knows, highlights the everyday moments where conversations about end-of-life wishes can naturally happen – on a road trip, at a BBQ, between errands, or in quiet moments with the people we care about.

It reminds us that sharing what matters most can bring relief, humour and connection, and help ensure our wishes are understood before it is too late.

What is a Death Café?

Death Cafés offer a relaxed, welcoming space to talk openly about death, dying and end-of-life wishes over tea, coffee and snacks. There is no set agenda, no lectures and no pressure – just open conversation guided by experienced facilitators.
