Our Story
From the community, for the community
In 1984, local residents identified a need for community-based palliative care services. A steering committee was formed, and in 1985, after extensive consultation, we became an incorporated association.
- 1985: Ballarat Hospice Care became an incorporated association.
- 1989: Ballarat Hospice Care was recognised as a model for palliative care services.
- 1999: We purchased and refurbished a new headquarters at 312 Drummond St South, Ballarat.
- 2016: We launched a fundraising appeal to purchase land for the construction of a Palliative Care Hub in Alfredton, raising $1.2 million.
- 2018: We received additional support through the Rural Health Infrastructure Funds program.
- 2019: We moved to our purpose-built Palliative Care Hub in Alfredton, designed with both staff and clients in mind. It is a place of calm where our clients can access services in a supportive environment.
We have been providing in-home specialist palliative care services for 40 years.
We support our patients’ choices, ensuring they can receive care in their preferred place of death. Our team serves a vast area, covering 3483 square kilometres, reaching communities across the City of Ballarat, Hepburn Shire, the northern end of Golden Plains Shire, and the western end of Moorabool Shire.
To offer our community a specialty palliative care service focussed on end of life issues and care.
Ballarat Hospice Care, through a skilled and compassionate interdisciplinary team, facilitates the provision of home-based, holistic palliative and end-of-life care.
- To provide specialist palliative care equitably and responsibly within available resources.
- To promote palliative care values within the community.
