We are a team of specialist palliative care nurses, supportive care advisors, patient and family support volunteers, and compassionate administration and support staff. We cover the Hepburn Shire, City of Ballarat, the northern end of the Golden Plains Shire, and the western end of Moorabool Shire.
Established by community members in 1985, our not for profit organisation guides patients, and supports carers and families to live, die and grieve well.

In 1984, local community members identified a need for community based palliative care services. A steering committee was formed and in 1985, after much consultation, an incorporated association was formed.
In 1989, Ballarat Hospice Care was recognised as a model for palliative care services.
Service development continued, and in 1999, the organisation purchased and refurbished a new headquarters at 312 Drummond St Sth, Ballarat.
Since then, Ballarat Hospice Care has expanded its services and capacity in response to the growing population and community need.
During 2016, a fundraising appeal was launched to purchase land for the construction of a Palliative Care Hub in Alfredton.
The community raised $1.2 million, and in 2018 Ballarat Hospice Care received additional support through the Rural Health Infrastructure Funds program.
Ballarat Hospice Care moved to the purpose built Palliative Care Hub in September 2019. This building was designed with our staff and our clients in mind. It is a place of calm, where clients can meet to receive any number of services, and ultimately find a soft place to land.
We have been providing in-home specialist palliative care services for over 30 years.
We support our patients’ choices in their preferred place of death. We are the local home based specialist palliative care service for an extensive area. Our team travels across 3483 square kilometres, reaching communities in the City of Ballarat, Hepburn Shire, and north west Golden Plains and north west Moorabool shires.
To offer our community a speciality palliative care service focussed on end of life issues and care.
Ballarat Hospice Care, using a skilled, multidisciplinary team approach, facilitates with compassion the provision of home-based holistic palliative care to anyone facing end of life issues.
Ballarat Hospice Care is governed by a Committee of Management, who volunteer their time and expertise to the organisation. Ballarat Hospice Care staff are dedicated and committed people who care deeply for the patients they support.
